Why interview day feels hard
You have waited years for this day. The test should not be the scary part.
At the interview, an officer asks you up to 10 civics questions out loud, and you answer out loud, in English. For many people, English is not their first language. That is a lot to hold in your head while you are nervous.
The 65/20 rule
65 or older, with 20+ years as a permanent resident? You only study 20 marked questions, not all 100, and you may take the civics test in the language you know best.
Reading a long PDF the night before does not build real confidence. Saying the answers out loud, again and again, until they feel easy. That is what works.
Passing is very achievable: six correct answers out of up to ten questions, drawn from a published list of 100. That's the whole product: repetition until the answers are automatic.

Straight answers
Is Liberty Lane Prep affiliated with USCIS?+
No. Liberty Lane Prep is an independent study resource. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS), the Department of Homeland Security, or any government agency. For the current, official version of the civics test, always confirm directly at USCIS.gov.
Is this legal advice?+
No. This site is a study-prep resource, not a law office, and nothing here is legal advice. For questions about your individual eligibility or case, consult a licensed immigration attorney or a Department of Justice-accredited representative.
How many civics questions will I be asked?+
A USCIS officer asks up to 10 questions from the official list of 100 civics questions during your naturalization interview, and you must answer at least 6 correctly to pass. The officer stops once you reach 6 correct.
Is there a shorter question list for older applicants?+
Some applicants aged 65 and older who have been permanent residents for 20 years or more may qualify for a modified, shorter study list. Confirm your specific eligibility at USCIS.gov.
What happens if I don't pass on my first try?+
USCIS generally schedules a second interview, typically 60 to 90 days later, where you are retested only on the portion you did not pass, not the entire application from scratch.
